Herts Memories is the master site of a network of community heritage websites around Hertfordshire. The project was set up in 2010 by Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund. There were nine sites in the network in the first instance, with others joining later; some of these sites have since been absorbed into the master site, preserving their content while reducing on-going costs.
CommunitySites provided the software and the training for the project, and have been hosting and maintaining it ever since. The Herts Memories website itself has grown to over seven thousand pages, with a team of volunteers and staff regularly uploading pages. The network was updated in 2017 to use open source software with a design suitable for mobile phones and tablets.
