Brighton & Hove Allotment Federation

When the Brighton and Hove Allotment Federation were looking to create their own website, they stressed the need to be able to update and expand it themselves, easily, quickly and without needing too much technical know-how. After a demonstration from CommunitySites, they were convinced that our software would allow them to do exactly that.

The resulting site offered information on renting a plot, sharing advice and tips, and invited contributions, including pictures of produce and flowers, from individual allotment holders. The site really did fulfill the federation’s aim of promoting allotment gardening for the citizens of Brighton and Hove.

That was way back in 2006. CommunitySites continues to maintain the site now, and has recently worked with the Federation to relaunch it with a new design that works on mobile phones and tablets and uses open source software. Fresh training was also provided for volunteers in how to add content to ensure that the site continues to thrive.
