Examples of our work
We have designed nearly 100 heritage and community websites around the UK and abroad. The sites below give you an idea of our work. There are many more sites featured in the Our clients section of the site.
The award-winning My Brighton and Hove community history website is famed as a model of best practice. The huge site is run purely by volunteers, and is financially self-sustaining.
CommunitySites easy-to-use software has been used to run the site since 2006, and has increased the rate of contributions to the site ten-fold. Our maintenance and hosting contract keeps the site running smoothly, with new features added each year.
Around the country, People's Record projects are collecting photos, stories and views related to the 2012 Olympics. This is a major project by the MLA (Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
CommunitySites used Omeka collections management software to build the site, creating an easy-to-use interface for contributors. Accessibility was all-important: the site's technology meets the rigorous standards of the Shaw Trust.
CommunitySites have set up a network of nine community archives round the county for Hertfordshire Libraries and Archive Service.
As well as our easy-to-use software, we've provided in-depth training and on-going support. As part of a CommunitySites network, the sites can communicate with each other and get reduced running costs.
Run by a team of volunteers and staff, Herts Memories is growing fast: it already has nearly 4,000 pages.
Mass Observation Communities Online
In 2010, the Mass Observation archive invited community groups throughout the UK to develop an archive that reflects life in 21st century Britain.
CommunitySites was chosen to create the website. We used the open-source system Drupal and added new features so that the Mass-Observation team could easily create questionnaires and import diaries and photo galleries into their archive.
