Recording the changing histories of communities

Mass Observation has been recording everyday life in the UK since 1937 through diaries, questionnaires and observations.

Between April and September 2010, the Mass Observation Communities Online project (MOCO) expanded on Mass Observation’s tradition by inviting community groups throughout the UK to develop an archive that reflects life in 21st century Britain.

CommunitySites was chosen to create the website. We built the site using the open-source system Drupal. We added easy-to-edit forms, so that the Mass-Observation team could create as many questionnaires as they wished and import the responses directly into their new archive.
