Website design

We specialise in creating community archive and heritage websites that encourage your visitors to add photos, memories and historical information to the site. For an example of one of our sites, see the award-winning My Brighton and Hove website.

Add any type of media

The software can handle all the range of media you could possibly need:  video, audio, maps, text, photos, animations.  Users can add comments, complete questionnaires, upload content, collect their favourite pages...lots of proven interactions that we know to work.  You can embed content that is hosted elsewhere, which cuts down your hosting costs.

Multiple layouts and preview facilities

Our websites are built on a database - but they don't look like a database!   Your users and project team will be able to choose from multiple layouts when they submit content to your site, and preview the content before it is published.

Workflow facilities and moderation

You don't want content appearing on the site before it has been approved and sub-edited.  A careful system of controls and alerts keeps your editors on top of the material coming in - and keeps the contributors up-to-date when their content is published.

Integration with metadata

Dull-sounding, but we could talk for hours about this. Think of a museum storeroom and a museum display case.  You might have the same content in both:  in the storeroom, the content is carefully catalogued and preserved; in the display case, the content is presented flexibly and attractively to the general public.  We do both with the content on your website.

Easy interface

Just look at our testimonials!  Contributory sites need a progression, because you want your website visitors to engage with your site more and more.  So a really easy interface for first-time users, then a little more functionality if they want to create their own page, then a few more buttons as they advance (if you want them to!) to become editors.

Choices for your website visitors

Our software offers lots of proven ways of engaging your users....adding comments, completing questionnaires, using message-boards, collecting their favourite pages...

Clear interface and navigation

Time and time again people say that our websites are so easy to get around, in contrast to the busyness and confusion of so many sites.

Flexible categorisation

As your content grows, the structure of your website needs to evolve with it.  We offer flexible categorisation, which means that the sections of your site can change easily - and you can place your content in multiple categories of your own choosing.  Don't get stuck in a pair of boots you've outgrown!

And all the usual stuff...

Web statistics, accessibility, a maintenance contract...just ask.

We also design bespoke websites for museums, archives and community and not-for-profit organisations.

Costs for individual websites

Most of the single websites we set up have a budget of between £2,000 - £5,000. This covers the installation of our website software at a domain name of your choice, plus a range of optional additional modules and services including face-to-face training for your team, bespoke graphic design and software development. The budget also includes the cost of the first year's hosting and an optional maintenance contract.  Contact us for a standard list of these costs.
